When is Love

When is love gonna stop saying sorry for all the mess it dragged me through
When is it gonna look me in my eyes and feel the full depth of the pain my heart has endured
Real eyes recognize the sun rise as the sun sets
It’s beauty uncontainable that it has you mesmerized as you realize you're staring into real eyes
And your whole being is at peace
And the real lies are all put away
Love
I miss that temporary feeling
Wishing it would last longer
I see your ashes you left at the gate
Don't make me hate you for your disregard for my life
You come in
You go out
You come in
You go out
I've suffered many casualties at your hand
Love
Each time you graze me I feel a tickle in my throat and I'm forced to yell
Enough
This is all I can take
I am time kissed and baked
I am done putting my trust in a lake
Just sitting and waiting
To be a priority
Just like the sun sets and rises I want to feel your heart beat flow through my veins
Like how wisdom now knows my name
Love
I'm so sick of your games
You don't make me laugh
Anymore
Come like a pain sore
That I'm waiting to heal up
Fill me with your good side
Gimme that good ride
Side to side
God's pushing override
Exhilarating
Debilitating
Love
Me
I love me

Let's start here and build again

 Reflection & Context

This spoken-word piece captures the exhaustion that comes from loving in cycles—where closeness is offered and withdrawn, commitment is spoken but not sustained, and apologies replace accountability. It reflects the emotional wear of repeatedly opening the heart to something that promises warmth yet leaves behind ashes. The poem speaks from a place of longing for consistency, safety, and a love that does not require constant recovery.

At its core, this piece marks a shift from waiting to be chosen to choosing oneself. It acknowledges the moment when attraction and intensity are no longer enough, when wisdom begins to demand stability, presence, and respect. The closing declaration, “I love me, let’s start here,” is the recognition that real love must first be rooted in self-honour, and that healing begins when one refuses to settle for temporary connection over enduring care.

Reflection Prompt

Have you ever accepted apologies in place of change, or intensity in place of consistency?

What would it look like to choose yourself, trust your worth, and wait for a love that offers both presence and peace?
