Love Is
Nothing seems to come to mind easily
Mindlessly so many of us spend time and money trying to buy a love that is binding our souls
Tying us to unattainable visions
Frustrating our hearts along the way
Weighing on my heart was the sound of a distant voice
Distant love
Distant choice
Choosing to ignore the tugging I kept lugging around my stresses
Doing the same thing over again searching for better results
Raging
Rapidly
On the road to
Ruination
But the restrictions of the bottom had me ripping my way to
Restoration
My destination led me to my knees
Where I begged and pleaded for a love that was always available to me
See
I said yes to a true love who I know will always stay
May I introduce you to my l.o.v.e spelt J.e.s.u.s
Less fortunate are those otha brothas who tried talking to me before I started walking with Christ
Righteous love is my new aim since Jesus showed my heart a fresh love game Schooling me on the importance of positive attitudes
Instead of submitting myself to latitudes
Then cussing
Nagging
And
feuds
But now I am submitting to the covering
Governing and producing
A love like 1 Corinthians 13
Written into so many wedding vows I am reminded to be patient and kind
Blinders gone
My mind has learned to compromise
My heart has learned to trust
My mouth has learned to hope
The scope of my understanding of l.o.v.e when covered by J.C provides an impeccable bond that never fails
Exhaling all defeat I hear the sweet sounds of new experiences beating at the doors of my heart
Today I start enjoying this beautiful art journey
With a better comprehension of a redemption song
Life supplied me with my first key to l.o.v.e
Which is to have faith and always love me
It just took me awhile to see
Reflection & Context
This piece was written in a season when I realized I had been searching for love in all the wrong places — chasing affection, validation, and connection, while the truest form of love had been quietly available to me all along. It reflects the moment when striving turned into surrender, when patterns of emotional hunger gave way to spiritual grounding.
It marks the shift from romanticizing love to understanding its source. From confusion to clarity. From longing to being held. This poem is about discovering that love is not something to be earned, bought, or chased, but something to be received, learned, and lived — rooted in faith, patience, and the kind of love that does not abandon or fail.
Reflection Prompt
Where have you been searching for love in ways that left you empty instead of anchored?
What would it look like for your understanding of love to be rooted in faith, safety, and something that does not waver?
